In most all of the threads regarding the HD rod ends everyone suggests changing them to a Heim rod end. I went to the Heim web site and found many parts with different prices. Does anyone know the correct model # and what a good price is?
you can use your existing shift rod, get 2 of these heim joints, and you will also need 2 jam nuts, 5/16 - 24, and 2 bolts, and 1 nylon lock nut. so for less than 10 bucks, you can have yourself a shift linkage that will probably last longer than your bike.
i replaced my linkage with 1 i made, kept the stock ends since they keep the linkage centred and not sagging off verticle, check the linkage i made and a few others i have made

After being stranded 2 times in the middle of nowhere I bought
the round polished stainless steel gear shift linkage #33814-98A
for around 80 bucks. Right after I traded bikes I put the same thing
on my new rkc before it ever left the building. I hate being stranded

You've got this bass-ackwards. It's the flimsy front OEM linkage end that most often fails. There's nothing wrong with the linkage rod itself.
