At the hazard of incurring the wrath of the secret society of FLTR owners, I encourage you to get the RG. I have ZERO complaints about my bike--and it is not like everywhere you look, you'll see one. Electra Glides and Street Glides are a dime a dozen (still great bikes, but they're like Camrys and Accords). Get a tour pack for the RG and you'll love it. Best HD bike!
Dear EG and SG owners--I'm not bagging on your bike. I happen to own a camry. But there are more EG and SGs out there--and we all want to be original.
If you want to blend with the crowd, get the EG. If you want to be one with the road, opt for the RG.
On a serious note, I've ridden both the EG Ultra and Standard and logged a couple thousand miles on both a 07 and 08 RG before I bought my 09. I'm a big, tall dude, the EG make me feel cramped while the stretched fairig on the RG fits my big frame better.
Plus you get to belong to a strange social club (Sacred Order of the Sharknose) that has a secret handshake.
That Road GLide bunch is a loyal group. I can't remember any of them wishing they hadn't gone with the Glide. In fact, my brother got rid of one, and now he wishes he had it back. I mean these folks are dyed in the wool loyal. There's got to be something to it.
There is something to it , one of the greatest benefits is being a member of the RGSS , cant tell ya anymore as it is a Secret Society

Please remind me if we meet NOT to shake your hand as the idea of you guys having a (secret handshake) kinda scares me! LOL Just Kidding
The Road Glide would be my choice if I didn't have to lane-split through city traffic all the time and deal with hot, humid summers. Can't beat a frame-mounted fairing and dual headlights when you're racking up big miles.
Of all the Harleys I have owned my Road Glide is my favorite.
Harley doesn't want to make too many of them because once you own one you stop looking for your next new bike.
I won't be trading mine in for a long time. Road Glides are keepers and that doesn't help Harley sales much.
guess im in the minority on this thread but after riding them both i prefer the ultra. rg did handle better but at a price the suspension is too stiff felt like i needed a kidney belt on bumpy roads the fairing is more stable in heavy crosswind but lets too much wind buffet my head.and the accesoreis on the dash are hard to reach. plus by the time u spend the $on tour packs lowers cb and all the other little goddies u cant touch the price of the ultra. not to mention the bars on the rg are way too far forwad.
Dang Boogie ya wasnt sposed to say nuthin bout the SOS , everyone ( more or less ) knew the RGSS existed ..
Now its out , gonna hafa report ya to the Illustrious Potentate
Yea, I know - 1 don't get out much and they ain't no folks around here to talk to which leads me to talk too much when I gets the chance - can we shake and make up? I'll go out to the garage and grab my sanitizer!
