I love the KING because you can do so much with it.... straight up, strip it or add to it.

I Bought an RKC, but here is why I shoulda bought a standard Road King and turned it into a SG....That's right, I said turned it into a Street Glide.

First, hard bags really are better long term over the leather bags

Second, there are several folks who make batwing fairings that quickly remove for when you wanna ride without windshield. And you can add a killer stereo to those fairings.

Third, the standard Road King comes with cast wheels so you can run tubless tires and quicly fix most flats while on the road.

Fourth, the standard Road King is cheaper out the door than either the classic or the SG.

SG looks excellent right off the floor. Although I do like that a Road King is a "clean canvas" that provides many modification options. If you want music on a RK, add a custom fairing w/stereo.

Default RKC or SG

I like both, just liked the Nastalgic look a little better. I find peace without the stereo, so not a big factor for me. Maybe one day.

I traded my RK for a SG last year just for the "long-term-comfort" factor. The fairing, the cigarette lighter, the radio (which I really didn't think I'd care about, but I love flipping through th AM stations on a long ride - Americana at its best), CD player, etc. The style is a plus.

But I have to admit - My RK had "character" that no other bike I've owned had.

But the SG has a warranty like no other bike I've owned.

I chose the Road King for a few reasons.

1) Appearance: Classic looks can't be beat imho (totally subjective of course).

2) Flexibility: I like being able to change the wind protection depending on the season. Naked in hot weather, full dressed in winter, all in five minutes (windshield, fork wind deflectors, fork air baffle, soft lowers). Can also pop off the windshield and bungee it to the back seat when the mood strikes mid-trip.

3) Weight: The Road King feels noticeably lighter compared to the batwing models, and it shows in the handling.

Over 60mph, you're going to want that full fairing.

I felt that the RK with the stock windshield provided better wind protection than the SG I test rode. Much less buffeting, at least for me at 5'7''. I usually ride superslab at 70 mph or so, sometimes a bit higher depending on traffic.

I gotta admit that my tall RKC windshield comes in handy when running apes.....If you ain't never done several hours at freeway speed with tall apes and no windshield, then you wouldn't understand.

I'm sold on tall bars and will never go back, so the tall windshield is a must unless making short hops.
