Honestly, you really can't rely on someone elses opinion to make a decision like this.
Some like the radio, some like the removeable windshield, etc, etc.
Me, I have an 03 RKC because I like the look, I also installed a uniqcycle sound system with the speakers mounted to the engine guard because I like music.
I'm not sure what I would buy If I sold this one now. (probibly another RKC or an ultra.
One thing to remember, you can make a road king look like a SG, but you can't make a SG look like a road king.
If you plan on spending long hours in the saddle, the Street Glide fairing and radio will be appreciated. If you plan on mostly day trips, the Road King can't be beat for classic styling and the chrome front end on a Road King makes it look even better. Rent each of the bikes for a day and see which one feels better and which one will suit your needs better. It is much easier on the wallet to pay the rental fees rather than trading bikes in for one that really suits your needs down the road. Either way, both bikes are great and you would probably be happy with either one. Good luck!
i bought my first road king standard in 2000. after seven years, i decided to switch and try something new.so, i went and got a 2007 street glide. its a great looking bike, but after one week, i had to bring it back and get another rk standard (love the hard bags). i realized that i didn't like the fairing and i felt it blocked my view. the radio didn't matter to me. i like hearing the sound of the trip. i've never had a radio on any my bikes before. road king or street glide? rent them both and see. you can do a lot with a king and it's good to be the king!
Over 60mph, you're going to want that full fairing.
Man... I remember on the RK, riding with no windshield for 3 or 400 miles at 75MPH... After an hour or two, I felt like I couldn't even hold on anymore. I'm a reasonably big guy with a reasonably bad drag coefficient. The two don't go together well in the long run.
Thanks for all the replies. Renting both for a try sounds like the way to go. I do like the looks of the RKC a little more. Wanted to know more about the windscreens . Riding with ear buds is against the law here in NY so is doing 75 in a 55. Thank you all again.
