Default how much clearance between 21" and fender?

Guy's how much clearance do I need between my 21" rim and tire? I running a Metzler tire 880 and I put a 1/4 inch nut on the tire and spun it around quite freely and not a peep. On a 3/8 nut it rubbed under the fender.
I got the Metzler because they say it will not expand at speed. Can I get some thoughts from those running a 21"?

Thanks

I drilled out all for holes to the 3/8 and this new fender has no light on it, I tilted the back of the fender up as much as it would allow. I'll have to do a test run around the block before hitting the streets. Thanks.

I drilled my finder with a 3/8 drill bit and tittled the finder to the front. I have a Metzger 880 tire also and never had it rub. I don't know how much tire clearence I have, but I never have had a problem.

A 1/4 should be fine. That's what I have and never a rub. They seem to rub just above the rear bracket if there going to.
