I assume that when riding in the rain that water would stream down the front of the windshield and through the inside of the fairing. There is certainly a close fit between the outer fairing and the shield but not a seal. Also, there are slight openings near the left and right edges of the shield. Does this water intrusion cause any problems? Is there any cause for concern?

I must confess I'm surprised, to say the least, that anyone would ask this question. With all the electrical connections inside the batwing fairing, and the electronic components in there, does anyone actually think HD would design it in such a way that anytime it rains, all that stuff would suffer ill effects from moisture?
This isn't exactly a new design. If there were such an issue, don't you think there would be complaints?
I have 50,000 miles on my current Ultra Classic. I ride it everyday and it sat outside during Hurricane Ike. I've had the fairing off a few times and I've never had a problem worse than a little condensation behind the fuel gauge glass.

And they all do that. Have for many years. Believe it or not, motorcycles are made to even ride in the rain with no problems.
I have ridden my bike in an absolute downpour, many times in the last two seasons. No problems for me at all. I also take my bike to the car wash. Before everyone starts in on me for that one. I live directly across from a car wash so its done with a cool bike. It gets the bugs blasted off the fairing all summer long.
