I just noticed something on my bike today...at an idle, and only occasionally, the speedometer jumps a bit as its running. 0-5 mph. Rev the engine a bit, it gets closer to 5 mph.
I decided to search a bit tonight to see if its a common problem, apparently it is, no one though described my exact issue.
Does anyone have an experience with this or advice?
try removing your VSS (vehicle speed sensor) and cleaning the pick up on it. It has a magnetic pick up and over time will collect all kinds of filings and debris.
also, on your 2004, it's easy to get at. On an 08, you have to pull the starter to get to it.

Thanks.
It's just the bike..no big deal.
It's letting you know that it's ready to launch!
HA!
blake...any luck with this? I'm having the same trouble with my 05 eglide. The speedo also jumps around as you drive. Changed the speed sensor with no success.
Speedo on my '03 has always been a little off. When coming to a stop it will hang at 5 mph then after the bike has completely stopped for 1-2 seconds it will fall to zero.
The only time the speedo bounced around was right before the speed sensor died.
Replace the sensor, cleaning it just prolongs the suspense before it completely dies.
