Default Windshield Questions

I have searched the forum, read all the posts, and still have some questions. I have a 07 Elec Glide Classic, Stock shield. I used this to meter height.

http://www.ceebaileys.com/cycle/height-width.htm

The windshield hits me exactly on the lower half of the nose. I am looking at these windshields

10" Wide
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/10-WI...1%7C240%3A1318

and 12" Wide
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/12-WI...1%7C240%3A1318

I have a special circumstance. I am 6'1 and wear a 32" length pants (inseam) and they are kinda long. I am basically looking at the line of the top of the windshield on it. I also carry a passenger probably 50% of the time. She is 5'9 roughly. Which one would you choose and why? I am really at a loss on this. Anyone out there tall torso like me and ordered a windshield? Please post any pics of these wide windshields too if you have them. Thanks. For searching purposes later, these are Dakota-shield.

May I suggest taking a look at the Clearview recurve windshield.
The way it's designed, the air flow off the windshield goes up and over you. I bought the
9 1/2 inch one so I could see over the windshield. It's like having the full hight stock windsheld on, but being able to see over it. With your build, you may be able to order a taller one and get the same results. Call or e-mail the owner at Clearview, he will help you get the correct size. He was very helpfull for me.

I'm 6'0" tall and I have the clearview 8" recurve. I see over it by about three to four inches. Works great for me. I also wear a full face helmet, so I imagine I would get a little more wind buffeting with a helmet of less coverage, or no helmet at all.

I suggest Clearview shields with the recurve.

If you like the wider style of shields , check out these guys http://www.customflhtwindshields.net/ very good feedback (mostly) from forum members.
The stock shield on your bike should be a 12" , a Harley 9 1/2" would be good if you like to look over the shield.
I had a clearview shield and it was super quality and I could use rainX on it.
Don't try rainX on the stock shield or most aftermarket ones either.
If you don't mind looking through the shield , the 15" Harley might work for you.
I'm 5'8" with a 32" inseam , so I look under the 12" shield by about 3".
I liked the clearview 8" with recurve , but my wife doesn't like the turbulence , so I run the 12" mostly.
The taller shields make the ride more quiet , but can be a pain in the rain and fog.
On my stock shield I use Novus 1 cleaner and it acts somewhat like rainX but is safe to use.
When I was looking for the right height to "look over" the shield , I just set a couple pieces of pinstripe at 8" and 9" above the fairing and made a note of which I could live with for wind protection and visibility , you will have to make this measurement for you.
Good luck
Mick

If the recurve makes turbulence, she will not like it. With the link previously, do you think the 10" shield would still block wind from the passenger? If I have to keep the 12" shield for the passenger, I can. I was just trying to make it better for me.

I'm very close to you 6' with 32" inseams (or shorter)
I sit up pretty straight too. Sore back if I don't.

I have the Half Moon windshields from http://www.customflhtwindshields.net/
I use the 12" for day trips riding. They make it a lot easier to hear the radio.

I can look over the 12" no problem.
The 14" one I have, I have to look though it.

I have a 10" a 12" and a 14"
But you will need to buy the "Mar-resistant" ones. Shipped they are $80.
http://www.customflhtwindshields.net...indshield2.htm

I had a 11" Flat Top to start with, but I didn't like the looks of it, in that tall of a shield.
It did work great on wind buffering though.

10" Dark Tint:

I guess I'm a couple inches shorter in the torso than you and use an 8" Half-Moon from customflhtwindshields. Wife is 5 ft. and says she has a lot less wind as passenger with this shield. Easier to hear the radio also. I think I'd stick with customflhtwindshields as the are great people to work with and I've heard some negative stuff on dakota-shield
