Been doing a lot of reading here on the forums on an upgrade to my audio system. I have an 08 Ultra with the stock audio system. I'm looking to keep my headunit, but would like to add an amp and the upgrade the upper four speakers. I have no interest in speakers for the lowers, as I use those compartments.
I checked with firecap501, and the ARC system he quoted me was $470 for two speakers for the fairing, and the amp. Sounds like a nice system, but I'm still only getting 2 of the 4 speakers I want to upgrade; and a nearly $500 price tag is something I'd like to reduce.
I checked with hogtunes, and their four speakers are $200, and I can't find a price on their amp. Their 3-for-the-freeway system is $549, and I'll never use the lower speakers. Also, the amp being just 48W, doesn't provide much power to the 4 speakers I'd connect anyways.
Is their a solution out there that I'm not aware of? I really do not want to spend $500 for 2 speakers and an amp, or spend over $500 to throw away two speakers and not get much power.
What speaker/amp setups is everybody using outside of the two setups listed above? Are your amps "plug and play" with the stock headunit? Are the speakers a exact fit for the stock speakers? Looking for ideas, any suggestions would be appreciated.
I have the Hog Tunes Ultra System.. Its a good value, but I really can't hear the rear speakers unless I lean back & really listen. If you had an amp with more power & two premium speakers, I bet the sound would be better than 4 average speakers and a less powerful amp.
I have hawg wired and I love it I have a street glide so only to speackers up front but its ****in ausome! and great customer service my amp was out of warrenty fixed it for free and they told me if it broke dont worry about send it back and we will always fix it for free!! its really a big debate just like the oil debate everybody has there own opinon and preferance!
Well if your looking to cut cost you could add some sony xplods for about 40 a pair, and you could also buy a sony xplod xm-4s amp for around $150. It a 150watt 4 channel. You would prob have to mount the amp in or under your tourpak. Im thinking it wont fit under your fairing. So basically you could upgrade for around $250. If your concerned about weather conditions with these speakers, Ive used them both on bikes and in boats, and have seen them washed, rained on, and flushed with river water from people getting back in the boat after skiing. The amp would be critical to dry mounting, or 'sealing it up'.

the arc was my choice. 125.5mini and 4- 5025`s
because of the power and it mounted in the faring. i at first also thought i needed to replace the rear speakers, but instead i added speakers in the lowers.
i could not be more pleased, it rocks and looks stock.
there are lots of optopns out there. when compareing them i would list the pro`s and cons of each system i was thinking of to come up with what is best for me.
Four good speakers are going to cost $140-$200,so this would leave you about $300 for an amp.
I think the hog tunes amp is around $230.You can look on ebay for the speakers and amp.You may be forced to buy a large car audio amp and have to place it in a saddle bag or trunk if you dont go with a motorcycle specific amp trying to save a few bucks.
I'm very happy with the ARC set up I bought from Firecap.
