Beary, simply buy them from etailers, not store fronts...and just buy the bits you need....You are correct that no store front like autozone or tractor supply stocks them....I can post a dozen etailer url's if I need to, but I know you guys are capable of using google.

Trust me, you need torx plus bits, not standard torx.
Thanks oinker02, learn something new every day.
I honestly haven't had a problem with Harley's using regular torx but I have
had "issues" with late model seat belts, now I know why

Guess I'll be buying another set (I have a "set" addiction, can't buy a single socket/wrench/etc)

Yes, my wife will agree that I don't plan ahead well and tend to get stuff when I need it at the moment. I don't need a dozen, but a couple sources is much appreciated.

Thanks.

This whole torx thing has a history behind it.....Torx fasteners were developed and patented by Camcar(now Acument)who defended their patent and prevent tool makers from even calling their drivers "torx" unless they paid a licenseing fee.....That made things confusing for us home mechanics when shoping for tools.

Then they discovered that vehicle manufactures demanded torx fasteners and drivers that would lend themself to automated assembly and increased tool life, so they came up with the tight fitting torx plus sized fasteners and bits.

Harley was right in there with GM and Ford and started using the cost saving torx plus fasteners and tools to assemble their bikes....only problem is Harley never told us harley riders who twist their own wrenches that their torx fasteners required slightly different tools........HD will sell you their proper tools at inflated prices, but they don't reveal who makes the tools and provide you with the little bit of info you need to make proper tool selections yourself at a cheaper price.
