Snap On makes some of the tools that Harley puts out. I was told the other day that Cobalt from Lowes is made by Snap On. Interesting.

Seems funny the HD chrome replacement bolts are hex, why bother with these hard to get out torx? Oh I was at Ace who carry some chrome and the guy from Hillman was there and he said HD chrome is fr them. I ordered the four bolts (2 ea. side) that hold the front calipers on since you have to order 2 whole kit fr HD at $33.95 each which I didn't want because of cost and looks. I black out the bolts for the brakes and caliper w DecoArt no-prep metal paint to give a clean look.

I am not dedicated to any tool maker. So I look for bargains. If you do not mind paying $35-40 go for the craftsman. I got a set of impact T sockets and T handle T wrenches for $20. They go to T 55 and have the T27. Both are heat treated. They do work well and have not had any problems striping the heads or the tools.

Thanks wideopen,

That thread contains a great graphic that shows the difference tween regular torx and torx plus.

Then they discovered that vehicle manufactures demanded torx fasteners and drivers that would lend themself to automated assembly and increased tool life, so they came up with the tight fitting torx plus sized fasteners and bits.

Harley was right in there with GM and Ford and started using the cost saving torx plus fasteners and tools to assemble their bikes....only problem is Harley never told us harley riders who twist their own wrenches that their torx fasteners required slightly different tools........HD will sell you their proper tools at inflated prices, but they don't reveal who makes the tools and provide you with the little bit of info you need to make proper tool selections yourself at a cheaper price.

Sorry to resurrect this old thread but there is a lot of conflicting info on this. I just called HD's customer service and was told that "all Harleys use Torx not Torx Plus". This was after the girl got off the line to check as she didi not know the answer. I was at the local dealer Saturday and asked the same question. The guy at the service desk never heard of Torx Plus so he got a mechanic. The mechanic said most hardware is Torx but there are a few items that are Torx Plus but could not give an example. Oinker seems pretty sure about Torx Plus being used but the answer from HD seems to be Torx.
