I have a fairing which finally is finished being painted. This gives me the room to install a full sized radio. I've chose the Sony CDX-F50M marine CD, AM/FM and XM ready receiver with MP-3 capability.
Running (4) total Kenwood KFC-1680ie 6-1/2" 2-way car speakers for 6-1/2" openings. Two up front in the fairing and speaker pods on the travel trunk in the back with the other two. Antenna is the stock located antenna on my Ultra travel trunk with a stock antenna lead to the radio in the fairing. In work installing all right now.
The first basic question is speakers or in the helmet. I have had both and in my opinion speakers just do not make it. I use headphones, but these are only good with a 1/2 helmet. If you wear a full or 3/4 helmet you need earbuds. I find them inconvienent . If you go with speakers you will need a more powerful amplifier, then it will mean something mounted on the bike and run off the bikes electrical system. All too complicated for me.
I was close to trading my RK in for a Street Glide because I wanted a radio. Came across three people that had this Amplified Speaker setup that will allows me to play my IPOD and XM Radio. I am enjoying the music and my RK,
I'm going with helmet speakers with the MP3 player for big trips. I would like to upgrade to one of these cases, with Sirius tuner under the seat. http://www.mctunes.com
