I have my antenna mounted on the left side of the handlebar , mounted outside my reception is hit or miss , can't imagine it working at all inside the fairing!
Mounted antenna on top of the radio under the fairing. Works great here in Texas, had a little trouble in New England when riding up there
i also use the Sirius magnetic antenna on top of my radio, under the fairing on my UC. Have had no problems receiving the signal throughout the west and northwest, and even parts of canada.
