I know a guy that buys the Harbor Frieght trailer, takes some aluminium diamond plate and turns it all into a really nice, cheap, light little trailer.
I have an American Legend. They are a bit expensive. But if you are talking about Alaska you are going to see some rough roads. I would avoid leaf springs and at least get a trailer with torsion bar suspension, 12" wheels, and a heavy duty welded steel frame. I think you might live to regret a lightweight bolted frame and little tires.
I also have a Hitch Doc but they have been claiming they are coming out with new hitches for bumperless Harleys and the new models for over a year. So far they haven't come out with anything new and the hitch they made for Street Glides doesn't fit without some serious cutting and grinding unless they have fixed it. I hope they deliver on their claims soon.
I'VE OWNE A time-out Dart, Neosho Starlite and now a Bushtec Quantum GL....
each one did their job quite well....but the Bushtec is by far the best..holds a ton, never know it's back there...
be pulling a trailer since 95...couple of things.
Swivel hitch.....
watch cooler weight
don't over load it
most of the weight towards the front to keep dog waggle away...
I would not leave home without mine...love it.
I pulled a Kwik Kamp trailer for 14 years putting about 12K a year on it without a problem. Except for the year my wife decided she need to pack everything plus the kitchen sink! We were riding a Goldwing then. I sold it when I sold the Goldwing.
We went back to just tent camping and that is why I built the HF trailer, just to carry camping gear. I pulled 5 times with the softy and didn't know it was back there. I did have the 95 kit in the softy though. I am yet to pull it with the Ultra as I haven't ordered the hitch yet. I need to sell the softy hitch first.....LOL. Spent all my budget on the other needed things......you know stage 1, heat shields, windshield bag, etc, etc.
Check out the hidden hitch from McHitch. When not trailering, it blends in with the bike. Real clean look. They have plug in wiring to your bike. Makes it real easy.
