I have a Red Craftsman jack and went out and bought a yellow one because it's shorter, I used that flimsy piece of crap one time and took it back and got my money back. The Red one works perfect it's just a little hard to get under a lowered bike.
A friend of mine had the same problem when using it to support his '01 Duece. I thought maybe it was an isolated incident because I hadn't heard of any other problems with it. Maybe it's not so isolated???
I can tell you I won't be using one under my scoot!
I had the sears jack and gave it away first month..........Not being snobbish or nuthin, but man the scoot sure liked to wobble a lot on that jack even when strapped.
I bought the J&S and that thing is really rock solid with no straps!...I will lift any Harley with no adapters, and get's used weekly here.....softtails, touring, sportys...all of them with no straps, adapters or worry.
It might bite me in the butt some day but I like and have confidence in my red jack. They way they lock looks fail proof to me. Unless a weld breaks and I have checked the welds.
You all can buy whatever you want. But I refuse to put a $20,000+ bike on a $50 jack. Or even a $150 jack. Just take a look at the "safety stops" on the cheaper jacks. Im not impressed, including the photos shown above. I had a Craftsman RED jack that I bought, not only were the stops even more half assed that whats shown above, only ONE side would even engage as the construction was so crappy that if one side was engaged, the other was so out of alignment it would not catch.
Sadly, It does not matter how many times something WORKS. It only matters the first time it FAILS to work.
Your money, your bike. But I will never own anything other than J&S or pit-bull (or one of similar construction) again.
