Just put a new 6 1/2 inch windshield on my ultra and my center bolt housing is pulling out of the inner fairing. anyone have any idea's on a good fix. Thanks Steve
srawden,
If it's one of the three top screws below the windshield that's pulling out, Harley makes a replacement threaded insert.

And will ask yourself why the hell they dont just use these to begin with - The replacement ones are threaded on the outside and bite well into the inner fairing - Take your time and this will fix it better than new!
I tried to hammer the old one back in a bit . It moved very little. Will it come out hard the rest of the way? When I install the new one how would I do it. Just screw it in and is it a self tapping screw. Would I also glue it? Thanks for your help guy's, Steve
The part number for the inserts is #16585-96 - Picked up a couple today and they work like a charm - You simply put the screw in all the way on the new insert and then screw the entire unit in the hole - It's just the right amount oversize and just like Gunny mentioned the threads are on the outside so it grips up nice - Makes a a real crappy design a little less crappy! - Thanks again Gunny for the tip
I am having the exact probelm (center screw insert) on my 05 Ultra! I started to use expoy and tap the insert back in, but it is a tight fit and the damn faring is plastic! This goes to the dealer for a fix and I will "ask" that they use the threaded inserts!
I got the replacement part, It has a slot cut in one end of it. This must be for your screwdriver to insert the bushing into the fairing? Any tricks other than to take my time to get it in correct. Thanks Guys
Mickey, this is the correct part. Since I put mine in I have had zero problems, even the screws stay tight. There is now way I would use a bonding agent when these are the correct fix.............
