Default Windshield problem

Went to install a new windshield from Custom FLHT windshields in Kentucky last night. The windshields are not tempered and come to you flat, not curved. After fitting it in the windshield groove, I went to re install the windshield bolts. Somehow I think I cross threaded the left and right inserts on the inner fairing and now the bolts won't go in correctly. My questions is, has anyone changed the inserts and how hard is it to replace them in the inner fairing on a 2014 Ultra.

You may try running a tap in first. They may be OK. I would try that before replacement.

I just read a threat in the touring section that was a DIY to replace those inserts, apparently this is fairly common. Cheap part from HD and not too difficult. Can't remember the thread title but I'm sure you can find it with a search.

Simple cheap replacement, at least on the older ones (I screwed up one or two on my '06.) Don't mess with them - just get new ones from the dealer.

I changed my stock one last weekend and run into the same problem on the right side. I ran a tap in it and it was fine. In my case, I did notice that when I put my new shield on, it has two holes that go over the outside inserts. If you pull up on the shield, kinda hooking the insert it will line back up perfect.
