Default adjusting passing lights??

I must be missing something, but it seems you must cut the wires and remove the passing lights in order to loosen the adjusting bolt. how in the heck can you adjust the lights if they have to be removed. am I missing something or did the MOCO have a worser idea?

They should not be so tight as to be unmoveable. Also, a brake line wrench will fit around the nut with the wire in place.

I cut a deep well socket down so the wires could pass through. The wrench would not seat down in the turn signal pedistal on my RK.

I agree they should be loose enough to move them without loosening the nut. I cut a slot in an offset 9/16 boxed end wrench to tighten when I installed mine. I have a friend w/a SE Ultra that did take the lights apart and cut the wires to adjust, but I don't recomend it.

Of course, HD has a special tool for that.

+1 on cutting/grinding a slot in a 9/16" wrench/socket. HD recommends using a Snap-On slotted socket; list price $40 from your Snap-On guy.

You can probably grab the passing lamp with both hands and move it as needed. Cutting the wires--no way!!!

P.S. Buy the Service Manual for your bike. The procedure is explained in the Electrical section under adjusting the passing lamps, including the slotted socket.

Look at this pic.....I made the correct socket fom a six point deep well.... simply put it in a vice and hit it with 4" angle grinder....Cost 3.99 and took ten minutes.

Make sure to use only 6 point socket

Okay...I admit that is a good idea, so I am a dumbass because I cut the wire to tighten mine up when it was loose, sometimes I just get into a hurry...what can I say..

Hey, don't feel bad. I too was gonna cut the wires when I saw snap-on wanted 46 bucks for the same socket....Too bad HD factorydealer can't get them aimed correctly before delivery, huh?

I've known guys to take a cresent wrench and bend the flange they mount to

Dont make it harder than it is. Yes you can buy a tool from HD, yes you can make your own with a deep well socket and a cut-off wheel, or you could do like I did, just grab the lamp firmly with both hands and move it. I did it to mine over a year and a half ago. I was able to get them to move enough to get them aimed where I wanted them and they have not moved since.
