I recently purchase a set of rims with run flat tires on them and was pretty excited, up until last night. I was at a local bike night and spoke to a couple of cops that said the run flats on the police bikes anyway pretty much suck. said the traction on those things are terrible and that they are not 2 up rated. not sure of the brand. Opinions please.
Cop bikes come stock with Dunlops Police Tires. They have an extra thick sidewall to keep them from coming off the rim in the event of a flat. They are not two up rated. I have ridden a cop bike with them since 2000 and have no complaints as far as traction goes.
+1 here. I rode on Dunlop Cop Tires the first 12K miles, and had no complaints whatsoever. I rode two up, fully loaded, 1 up running it hard, you name it and never had any problems with them.
Do you have to ask for them special and do they want to know any special reason why you want them? And last but not least do they come in Wide White Wall.
You have to have the P/N which is 43762-96 for the front. I have one that I am getting ready to put on the front of the bike. The down side to the back is that it only comes in the 130 width. Tread patterns are the same as what is on the standard Harley 402's so everyones traction sux. They will be clueless as to what you are asking for.

His traction was crap probably because he was riding it a bit harder than he should have. I play on my bike but I still respect it, I'm not sure if they feel the same about their work bikes.
My opinion has no value what so ever btw, not even 2 cents
So what I gather thus far is those that have run them, have not had traction issues or load issue when riding 2 up and loaded down. I guess like almost everything else in motorcycling it comes down personal preference, and the not rated for 2 up riding is industry standard and a warning for my *** just incase something happens, I was forewarned…
Thanks to everyone who has reponded. Keep them coming... Ill keep reading.
I put the run flats on my lowrider but not on RG because of weight rating. They run great on the lowrider. And it was a little hard mounting by hand. They went right on but airing those things was a trick.
