The problem with this cooler is the same as any cooler. Sitting in traffic it doesnt do much good. You need air flow for it to be effective.

Thats a great idea but if you had a oil guage you would see that the oil heats up while running on the highway most. I sit in traffic about 1 % or the time. I dont let myself get into those situations.

I try to avoid traffic, however places like Sturgis you really dont have a choice.

Looks like if you install it you loose the ability to use an under frame rail bike lift. Unless it sits up inside the rails but there it would not get much airflow there.

Looking at the picture again you are right, I cant see where this cooler gets much of an air flow the way its mounted flat. And considering how hot the asphalt can get in the summer you could be cooking your oil with the heat radiating of the road at a red light waiting for it to turn green. I will say it again. Oil coolers need air flowing thru them to work as intended. You dont need a oil cooler while cruising down the highway. The air circulating around your motor is sufficient enough to cool it. You need it the most when you are stopped in traffic and barely moving. Unfortunately thats when the oil cooler is the least effective. I run fans on my cooler and it works great. I have never been the smartest kid in class so if I'm wrong I'm sure somebody will let me know.

That argument really doesn't hold much water. While a cooler does cool better when it is moving it still gives off heat while sitting still. To prove this, just think about a house with steam heat and radiators. Do you have to push the radiators around to heat the house, no they still give off heat.
Probably the best oil cooler on the market is the Jagg. Most race teams use their coolers. Having an oil cooler under the engine hinders heat loss through convection as the hot engine is above it, and heat likes to go up.Just google them and go to their web site and read the facts. We use them almost exclusively on all our builds. Hope this helps.

I do not see any benefit of this type cooler except "hidden" +1 for airflow...and for that Price..HOLY $%#@...
I do not have one and I've sat in Daytona during bike week for as lond=g as 45 minutes. Moving about 3 bike lengths every 30 seconds...Friend had oil temp gauge and it hit 260...My bike was brand new and completely stock and I am assuming I had around the same temp....But it's rare sitting still that long.....no cooler here to this day....

"Best" for what??? An oil cooler is a radiator for oil. They function best with airflow; either naturally, as in the front of an automobile/motorcycle, or with fans to generate the airflow. This unit has neither. It may lower oil temp because it increases the volume of oil and has surface area to dissipate heat, but it's not going to receive much airflow.

Let us know how you like it?
