Default Windscreen Help - New to baggers

Hi all from Australia,
I have just traded my 06 Softail Std on a 08 RK Classic with race tuner and Vance and Hines 2 into 1 exhaust. My problem is buffeting from screen - I ride with a Nolan Flipfront helmet and have found the buffeting from the standard screen riding on a sundowner seat to be very ordinary. I have tried sitting on a pillow as suggested by the dealer to simulate lowering the screen with little improvement. I am 6 foot tall and screen in about in line with my upper lip . When I squat down things improve but is this because I am behind screen or closer to screen . If i move closer to screen without pillow things improve. I have searched this and other sites and chrome lowers may be the answer. I have also read that an open face helmet improves things but would prefer to ride in my Nolan for safety reasons - too many fools in cars out there. Love the look of the bike and the power increase over my 08 with powercommander but need to sort out screen for 2 up touring. We went down the RK line vs a Ultra due to the extra weight uo hight and I have a "dicky" knee which may not handle the weight. Any suggestions or direction to possible solutions on this or other forums would be greatly appreciated.

Thankyou in anticipation of replys

Barchem

Welcome! I wear a half helmet so I don't know what to tell you. I survived a bad wreck with a half helmet and don't think a full face gives much more protection but to each his own. I have the same windshield and am 6'2" tall so the buffeting doesn't occur when I ride. Good luck on finding a solution!

What about changing out the shield to a Clearview or Wind Vest recurve? I get by with a Wind Vest 10" recurve. I'm on a Ultra but it'd have to help out somewhat... The recurve on the Wind Vest is a bit more extreme than the Clearview, I think it makes the wind flow a bit higher over me.

Looking at Fastaire's sight, they are straight shields, no recurve. If you want a replacement for your OEM I'd try them in a heart beat, the prices are unbeatable but for wind deflection the Wind Vest will displace a lot more wind with less shield. This is my Wind Vest, a 10" smoke on my Ultra.

I can't say anything about the RK but I have a Clearview on my UC and my RG and am very happy with them both. I just wish they didn't cost more than a car windshield.

I put the Wind Baffle on my Road King. I helps some. I think they only cost $20. In the winter I put on the Fork Wind Deflectors.

That guy is asking about a Road King with a straight windshield - not a Rat Wing.

I ride a RK Custom with my shield about throat high and get no buffeting but I ride without a helmet or with a half helmet. My shield is a 17" Clearview with recurve. I am 5'11".

Have you tried mounting the fork baffle?
