Default removing caliper mounts

has anyone here removed the brake caliper mounts from one of their fork lowers?
If so how did you do it? or what's the best way to do it.

I'm running a single rotor on my SG and want to shave of the mounts on the unused side before chroming.

Any suggestions?
Thanks

Can either have the chromer shave them prior to chroming, or grab a 41mm right lower from a softail as I believe it will fit. I think others have used a softail lower when going to single. You using a 6 piston caliper on the left?

Thanks,
I am using a PM 6 piston on the left with a 21' wheel and am happy with the braking. Better than the stock two rotor on the 07. I might get a better rotor yet to improve even more, but that's later. My current winter project is too chrome the front end, maybe paint the inner fairing.

You can grind/file it off if you have the tools and dexterity and work slowly. Just take care to smoothly radius the fender bolt mounting boss directly above the upper caliper mount so it doesn't crack. I have seen those fender bolt bosses crack and the fender swivel loose while riding.....It is ugly.

I had Chromemasters shave mine off before they chromed my lowers for me. I think they charged me $35 extra to do it, well worth the $ to me cause they had the experience doing it. I could have gotten out the sawzall and grinder and gotten them off, but not sure how the end result would have looked after it was chromed, so I left it to them to do, and was very happy with the results.

Thanks for the tips, I got a friend that works in a machine shop, and he said he could take them off for me, I figure better left to someone with the right tools and experience.

I think the softail lowers have a slightly different shape.
If I recall, there's a slight taper (step) up high.
