Badbagger, My vote is that you get a Corbin seat with removable backrest. Leather seating area, you can get custon stitching and lot of styles and colors of material. That black bike would look sweet with a tan ostrich skin seat on it !!!!
For a solo seat, I say without. It looks stuppid on a solo. I keep my passenger seat on, so...I have a backrest. Trust me, it is the best thing in the world. I kick back, prop my feet up, on the highway pegs, and roll. Although, mine is a Road Zeppelin seat with an HD adjustable backrest in the all the way back position, which is only like an inch. I moved my Tour Pak back two inches, and it give my wife enough room to be comfortable.
Hey BadBagger, look at it this way----------------------------------->
If you buy the solo w/backrest and don't like it/use it/or use it very much, you can toss it in the garage until you need it......... or sell it.
If you opt for the solo w/o the backrest (assuming you'll buy the non backrest style) then you won't have the choice later.
If you do any touring, you will hands down love it. I couldn't believe how much it helps my posture and keeps me from "the slouch" that happens when you ride for very long.
I'd find someone with one installed and give it a ride test. I can't believe I rode without one for so long!
Even if you don't like the backrest, it's worth getting the seat with that option since appearance is virtually identical, and you can always sell the backrest on eBay with virtually no loss.
I have a C & C Fastback with backrest option. My backrest can be adjusted to a incline and decline to find just the right angle. I sometimes ride without the backrest and when I use the backrest my back can rest. with is better than without.....when needed.
I voted for the backrest, and thats because I got the one without, and think it would be nice for the in between rides. You know, not long enough to put the solo tourpak on, and long enough to want back support.

I don't know about anyone else, but there's no way I would have a MC seat without a removable backrest. I don't use it most of the time, but on any ride more than about 100 miles I'll slip it on. On tour it is a must, and although I don't have back trouble I will have a sore back after a day in the saddle without it. I don't think the price difference is horrendous, so I would advise to go with it.
