I have the harley rider backrest and i think i'd enjoy it more if i could sit back another 2 inches or so on my seat. As it is now, its nice for a "change of pace" but i find that the backrest causes me to sit forward too much and puts pressure on areas that cause pain after a while. Typically if i'm doing long rides, ever other gas stop or so i'll pull it off and stow it in the tour pack just for variety.
To the original poster, just do what you want. Not sure why people always ask other's opinions on things like this, when it's about the poster's own comfort. If you need a backrest to be comfortable, get one. If, as you stated, you have found you are comfortable without a backrest in place, don't get one.
Most people agree that a bike looks better without one. Many people will agree that if the backrest gives you comfort when riding, you should get one. This is a personal decision nobody else is going to be able to make for you.
Personally, I'm comfortable without a backrest. Many people aren't.
+1 on the mustang backrest, mine is very comfy to the point I hate taking it off, it has a lot of adjustment plus the pad pivots to line up with your back.
I never liked backrests, never found them comfortable the couple times I tried it. I have a good back though so perhaps those with back problems find them to be a good thing. It's all in what you find comfy. And yes I'd hate kicking that thing every time I try to swing a leg over the bike.
Badbagger, My vote is that you get a Corbin seat with removable backrest. Leather seating area, you can get custon stitching and lot of styles and colors of material. That black bike would look sweet with a tan ostrich skin seat on it !!!!
Now you're going to throw that in the mix? Lmao... I'll have to look at them thanks, I think lol!
FYI.. Don't know what year your ride is, but I bought a Mustang solo seat for my 08' RKC and it will not fit with the PCIII under the seat. Might want to check into that before spending all that money on a seat that doesn't work.
