Question Stage 1 or 103" Upgrade

Out riding today and stopped by my dealer. Discussed Stage 1 upgrade, but he said the best bang for the buck was to go ahead and do the 103" upgrade. Yes, more money, as he indicated the 103" would run about $1600 - $1700. He never quoted the Stage 1, so I'm not sure what the typical Stage 1 upgrade costs.

Question to the all knowing.... Do you save up for the 103", or do the Stage 1 and then work toward the 103" later...... Are the gains of the 103" worth the price?

I actually picked mine up off the showroom floor with the Stage 1 103" (with stock cams). I am rather happy with the numbers from it. The sheet below was in the same configuration I picked it up in. Since then I have added PCV with Autotune and Jackpot Mufflers. I am playing with the Autotune for a few weeks and then I'll go get another few runs on the dyno to see what the change in numbers were.

It suits me just fine....pulls like a Supercharged John Deer.

I did the stage 1 for about 850.00 plus dyno(barterd that)..Its all bolt on so you can do it then bring it in for the dyno witch a good dyno runs 250-350 depending who you have do it.......Your not out much if you up grade later.....If ya do geardrive cams then thats the time to do a stage two......I think labor for a stage two is around 8-9 hours including dyno time.....
doing a 1 then a 2 you basicaly will end up paying for 2 dyno tunes...being how you have no labor but your own on a stage 1....

What does the stage 1 include...Cams and anything else?

How were your dyno numbers? Was your torque curve as flat as mine?

I was thinking of getting the 255's down the road...that's why I ask.

Yeah, my first thought was going w/ Fuel Motos setup for a while. Jamie seems to have a great package that everyone seems to like and great support from Jamie the crew. Big concern is getting rid of the lean condition before the weather starts warming up. I already have decel and gear change pops, and noticed yesterday it seemed a little more than normal. Checked the pipes again to make sure it wasn't that, but they were fine.

Just wondering which may be the best for the money you spend....
Tks for the input!

Just save up for the stage II 103 upgrade. Anything less will be less. Also, get the installer to cut the heads for the compression releases when he has them off. I don't care what they say about them being "not" needed, just do it. It will save you money later.

Jamies setup will get rid of the decel popping and lean condition. If his map is not spot on the first time, let him know and he will tweak it and send it to you in an e-mail to load.

PCV is easy to use and load maps to.

Where you at in NC? I'm getting ready to go for a ride right now.

I have a stage one kit, the pipes, air cleaner and a PCIII. That is all they had when I got it. I would love to upgrade to the PCV and either the 103 or the 110. So, I would say go ahead, and get the 103, and be happy.

your going to need the pipes and intake and pc to get the most out of the 103 anyway. Why not start with the stage 1 via fuel moto and when you feel the need for more upgrade to the 103 and get a reflash from jamie. Seems to be the most cost effective way to get your cake and eat it too.
