On different bikes at different times I've done the 103" upgrade, a big bore kit and just the Stage I upgrades. Biggest bang for the buck (to me) was just doing the Stage I upgrade... it woke the bike up. On my '09 SG, I chose to do the Stage I (SERT, SE Air Cleaner and 2" Rush slip ons). PLENTY of power for me. My son has a '06 Night Train with the big bore kit, SERT, pipes, etc. and he says my SG is way faster than his NT. I just kept the '09 SG mods simple and I'm very happy with the results, too!
I have a Big Sucker, Fat Cat, SERT and a Head Quarters 500 cam and got 90 HP and 93 Torque from the 96" engine.
I did it this way because I can add the HQ's 103-107 kit down the road and get another boost. I've seen a lot of S.E. stage 1 103's get less than the starting #'s I have already!
Why not just spend the money and throw a Pro-Charger on it and you'll pushing damn near 130 hp,and be done with it.When and if you want to get rid of your bike someday pull the Pro-Charger off and either sell it or have it adapted to your next bike.Personally I would'nt waste my money on a 103 kit they're numbers are not impressive at all.A 96" with a Fuel-Moto kit from Jamie will wax 103's all day long I know that for a fact.Just my 2 cents.
