I think Lockhart blew away this weekend! Seriously, we didn't make that side trip, but we will be making the trip again, when the wind isn't so fierce. I'd LOVE to know about that good BBQ joint in Lockhart. Yum!
Coming back, we took 71 west and caught 281 north. Where is Lockhart? I've heard of it, but can't place it.
Helluva ballsy undertaking setting out on a trip like that knowing you're riding into dangerous conditions. Kudos for doing something beyond the local Wednesday night bike night. If anyone ever calls either of you posers, I guarantee everyone in here has got your back.
Oh, and since you're planning your next trip, there are still plenty of hotel rooms left in Daytona for Bike Week. We'll look for y'all there.

She has blue LED's. They draw more comments than anything I've ever seen. Very cool looking at night. We got off the Highway and rode through the "rough" part of Dallas on our way back last night. I told her she was going to get "bike-jacked" running those lights. (Hope that doesn't offend anyone)

Gotta admit...after reading the "poser" threads...I've always felt pretty poserish...it's good to know I'm finally working my way out of that classification!
Considered Daytona, but can't pull it off this year. Already signed up for the TX ROT Rally, National HOG Rally in Okla City and the LA HOG Rally. Looks like weekend trips will be the mainstay for awhile. I have a small condo in Santa Fe, NM and will be doing some riding up there this spring and summer. Really looking forward to that. My brother & his wife live there and I plan on doing some riding with him. He has an '03 RKC.

Eh, screw those threads. If you're logging long miles on your scoot then you're a biker. End of story. Sounds like you've got some great trips planned. Enjoy them and maybe we'll see you in Daytona next year. Rock on.
Congratulations on making the trip! I'm fairly new to riding as well and I love it. It's a great feeling coming back home and know that you can take something off your bucket list.
If I were you, I would try a windshield. Maybe I'm getting old but I really need mine. I took it off just once and I couldn't wait to put it back on.
Congrats on the overnighter. Start keeping your list now of a. Must haves b. Nice to haves and c. Probably don't really need and won't use. Pack accordingly. a. items go in first, b's next, and if you've got any extra room then the c category might fall in.... I've been riding and taking trips for 40+ years, and I still pack more junk than I ever use. But all the guys I ride with are glad I do, cause I always end up having something that THEY need. It'll all fall in place. Ride safe out there.
Lockhart is a definate stop for BBQ. They have a few long established spots there. Worth more than one trip to try them all, or do a taste test and hit as much up as possible. I recommend going to Luling, TX also and hitting up a spot call City Market.
Looks like the windshields were on for the trip pics. Just doesn't want the ugly thing in her sig pic...like a lot of us.
You're right about a windshield making a big difference though. Its amazing how much fatigue they can prevent, especially on long trips. Mine's almost always off for riding around town in nice weather, but if its cold or raining, or if its a road trip, the windshield goes on.
