Planning a year in advance, now that's what I call looking at every avenue possible.
I would change my mind 100 times in a year.
You have a lot of good suggestions.
The U.S. has a lot of great places to ride.
I prefer to make a good long ride getting there and then relax and enjoy God's work. You can get any where in the U.S. from anywhere in 2 days and have several to enjoy doing what ever you want. Most likely that is.
If your in Colorado You have to do the "Million Dollar Highway" between Durango and Ouray. Also Mt Evans, Pikes Peak, Royal Gorge Bridge and probably the the best(in my opinion) Rocky Mt. National Park. If you go to the latter ride the " Old Fall Road" you will love it.
Did a two week trip last year to Glacier(Going to the Sun road); across the smoke stack of Idaho; over to Spokane; down to Lewiston, ID; across Lolo to Missoula; down to Ketchum, ID; over to Craters of the Moon Nat'l Monument; up to Yellowstone; then up over Beartooth to Red Lodge; then down over Beartooth to Sheridan, WY via Chief Joseph Hwy(fantastic); Sturgis; then back to MN. Around 4300 miles.
Highlights for this year is Sturgis first; then heading for Hells Canyon, OR; then eventually over to the OR coast; up around the Olympic Pennisula; running Lolo again to Missoula; work our way back to MN. Around 4600 miles.
Great time, but it's hard making the miles fit into a specific time period(2 weeks for me).
We took a great ride for Lewiston Idaho down Hwy 129, to Hwy 3 then on to Hwy 82 to Hwy 86 into Baker City for the Hells Canyon Rally in June. It was a fantastic riding area and the rally in Bakers City is small but a good time and other great rides in the area.
Also when you do the Bears Tooth try the Chief Joseph Hwy as well great ride.
CO has many great rides as mentioned and you can get there vs. going to W coast. There is the Black Canyon which IMO is as great as Grand Canyon. Just get their tourist info fr web and you have plenty of scenic hwy and you could swing thru SO Utah also if you have time. Nothing like planning ahead.
