Interesting info. I have been contemplating the BB kit, but I'm not THAT unhappy with the 88, I would just like a little more umph. Which gear drive cams would be comparable to the HD 211's? Would it be adviseable to put "them" in a stocker. Well, I do have a SERT, SE AC and Rinehart TD's.
Hmmm...i could have sworn some of those lights on the back would give you at least a LITTLE extra thrust? Or maybe i have just been watching too much Star-Trek
TheShrink: That new HD piece is just the updated (07-later) hydraulic cam plate upgrade to alleviate the cam chain tensioner issue. If you go with Gear Drive you replace the exising chain with the gears. That new HD piece is for us guys on our ancient (pre 07) scoots to alleviate the issue. Also, due to crank shaft runout out of spec, some of us can't use gear drive.
I installed the SE 203,s also, and I like it. I'm not gonna win any drag races anytime real soon, but it made a nice, reliable and inexpensive way to get a little more power. I'll do headwork later when the novelty of this wears off, keep me from getting bored and buying another one.
I've got an '06 SG and my project started out just like yours but ended with 95", gear drive cams, headwork, oil pimp, PCIII, air filter and true duals - whew! If you want to leave your motor as an 88" you should consider just a geardrive or hydraulic setup. There are many resources out there that can recommend a cam grind suitable for stock heads and the mods you've already made. It'll run great, too.
FYI, here's how it works: If you're going to do the heads you might as wall bore it out to 95" cause you're 90% there anyway. As long as you're doing the 95" thing you might as well bump the compression to take advantage of the cams and overbore. As long as you're doing the geardrive you might as well go for a better oil pump.....you get the picture. It doesn't take long to lighten your wallet, but the smile you get whenever you open the throttle makes it all worth the effort. Good luch with your project.
Thanks, HDRider2002, that's what I thought but wasn't positive.
Leftcoaster - I understand what you're saying. I think everybody here understands the "snowball effect" to doing anything to these machines. Every one of them is a work in progress.
