A simple cam upgrade is well worth it as long as you are not taking off the heads.
If you are taking off the heads it is a waste of money to buy new heads when there is more power in the stock heads with work than you can buy out of any high performance heads Harley sells.
Now if you want the "Screaming Eagle" or "CNC Ported" logo on your heads you will have to buy new ones but they will not be as good, off-the-shelf, as having a good machine shop give your stock heads the once over.
Dollar for dollar, you will not get more performance out of your investment than having your heads built by someone that knows what they are doing.
i switched to s&s 510G's and the differance was unbeliveable, never had it dyno'd but it a lot stonger and fast that before. I'd do it again for sure
My buddy has an '06 with the S&S 510 cam, and he can keep up with my 95"BB & Andrews 26G cam. If I were to do it again, I might just do the cam. A lot of bang for the buck. IMHO
With just the WOODS tw-6g cam in my 88", i was getting 86 hp and 92 tq. A long with the BAISLEY oil pump spring, and the V+H Pro-Pipe. Huge improvement from STAGE 1 at 63 hp and 79 tq with V+H Short Shots.
