Default Security when traveling

Planning a week long trip for the first time, and was wondering what everyone else does to "protect" or keep your bike safe if you don't have a trailer or a garage to store it in? Has anyone had their bike or parts from their bike stolen on an overnight ride? Thanks for any input

I decided after my second overnight trip that I could either worry or enjoy the trip. I quit worrying. Carry a cell phone, a credit card and make sure your insurance is paid.

We take about a dozen trips a year or more, usually 2-4 nights at a time and one 7-10 day trip. No problems so far with theft or security.

Pretty much the same advise as previous post. Use common sense e.g do not leave a camera in open site and take basic precautions e.g I have a cheap wire alarm lock that i use to attach my jacket etc to the bike and I always cover the bike at night using a lightweight 1/2 cover. The Insurance institute of America reported a number of years ago that bikes parked with a cover over them were significantly less likely to be stolen or tampered with. I seem to remember it was nearly a 60% reduction

Here's my advice...
1) a bike alarm,
2) a simple bike cover - keeps wandering eyes off it,
3) park it where you can see it, if not hear what's going on around it from your room,
4) lock the forks.

I agree with Neckball but I do a few things also. I used a disc brake lock, park in a lighted area. If at a motel I ask if I can park were the cleark has a view of the bike. So far no problems!

We have taken many short & extended overnight trips with no problems so far. Like said in some of the previous posts use common sense.
Lock saddlebags etc if you have them, lock forks & cover bike at night. I use a light weight full cover at night, it has no Harlry markings on it. I figured if it were a Harley cover that might draw some unwanted attention. Go, enjoy, & have fun.

Smith and Wesson usually does the trick.. LOL. Never had a problem, just locking it up and I try to keep it parked outside my motel room. I do a lot of touring on my bike and been to quite a few rallies never had my bike tampered with.

I park in an area where I can hear if someone messing with the bike. As deterents, I use the following: Fork Lock, Disc Brake Lock, Bike Alarm and full plain cover. No problems so far. Enjoy your trip.
