Default First Daytona Trip

Well it looks like I'm actually going to get to go to Daytona for bike week. Will be riding down from the west Tn. area. Just wondering if anyone had any ideas for "must see" or "must do" while I'm there. Have never been and really would like to make the most of the trip. Any neat things in surrounding areas I should check out. Would love any input. Thanks in advance!

Ride "The Loop", Destination Daytona, The vendors in front of the track, Main Street, the races at the track, the swapmeet at the fairgrounds on SR-44, Finnigans at SR-100 & A1A in Flagler Beach, the Lighthouse restaurant at the end of A1A in Ponce Inlet, The Bridge to Nowhere at The Iron Horse Saloon. And about 1000 other things..........

Must see? That depends what you like. Most of Bike Week is going from one place to another to drink beer, shuffle along through crowds, ogle scantily clad women who sell beer, listen to loud bands playing classic rock, and eating unhealthy food. Oh, and shop for lots of crap you probably don't need.

On Wednesday at Noon, unattractive women wrestle in cole slaw at Sopotnik's Cabbage Patch in Samsula. Nudity is guaranteed, but not always welcome depending upon who's showing what: http://www.cabbagepatchbar.com/

If you camp, be prepared to stay up all night with wild parties, more nudity, and probably some funny smelling cigarettes, beer, and other party favors.

Lots of wet t-shirt contests, a bikini contest or two, and other excuses to see women in very little clothing.

Lots of demo rides by most popular motorcycle makes, generally over by the Speedway.

Show bikes all over the place, but the big contest is on the Boardwalk (not made of any actual wooden boards) at the beach end of Main Street.

There is a lot of stuff to see and do, but don't be afraid to spend some time to get away from it all and go ride. Surrounding cities also have some events to leech onto Bike Week. The Loop is a nice ride, though it does get a bit crowded during that week. Riding A1A up to St. Augustine is a nice way to get away from the crowds, go see the old fort, etc.

Plan what you can, but don't be afraid to vary if something interesting comes along. Ask other folks once you get there and you may find something better than what you planned. Above all, stay safe and have fun.

Well, they've built up that new Harley shop on the interstate into a regular little Harley city. Ought to be interesting. The ride down to ponce inlet is a good one. Also they have good fish dinners down a JB's? fish shack. Don't remember if that's the right name or not. You can ride north on A1A right beside the ocean, that's good. The economy is so bad it might not be so crowded this year. Maybe, maybe not.

An overnighter to Key West is a must if you're that close.

Trip down cut over to Jax, and ride SR 13 down to St. Aug, very nice. The ride on AIA down the beach from St. Aug to Daytona is very good as well. Have fun.

Oh yea it can still get into the 40's in the am so bring some warm gear as well.

You'll love Daytona! We've been a couple of times. First time stayed at the county fairgrounds...packed in like a sardine, but it was fun. Stayed in our toy hauler. Next time we went, we stayed in our motorhome at St. Augustine. If you have time, check out historical St. Augustine. I'm really into history and historical towns so I was truly in my element, but the ride from St. Augustine up A1A along the beautiful coastline all the way to Daytona was absolutely fantastic!! It's a MUST. As someone else suggested, you HAVE to ride The Loop. Go to the official Daytona Bike week website and they will show you where the loop is. Daytona itself during bike week is EXTREMELY crowded and you just can't take all those crowds for very long so you just have to get away from time to time. We had a wonderful time. Oh yeah, Destination Daytona is a must do.

And if you stop in traffic and someone takes your pic and gives you a slip of paper, take it home, look up the pic on the web page on the piece of paper and buy a photo like the one we have. Great souvenir of a good time!
