I don't have an amp on a bike yet but from years of experience trust me. Its pay me now or pay me later. Save a few bucks now and when you upgrade to what you should have got in the first place costs more than doing it right the first time. Just my opinion.
This how I did it! I have an Electra Glide Standard ( no factory radio ) I velcro my ipod to fairing, from there I just run a wire from where you would normally put head phone jack to 36 watt -- 18 watt per channel amp which is zip tied between fairing. wire goes from ipod to amp to upgraded Harley speakers. Ran power from from accessory switch to amp. I use a monster wireless remote for ipod ( great accessory ) this is a big remote-weather proof, I paid $59 then found tons of them on Ebay for $19 It's called the iEZclick wireless remote from monster. Remote mounted right next to left side hand controls for easy volume, and song changes. Anybody have any questions feel free to contact me, be glad to help. Just wish I went bigger with amp and speakers, but being this was an experiment, didn't want to spend a tonof money if this idea didn't work. Mr Know it all from Apple/ipod told me the ipod doesn't have the power to run through amp. HE WAS DEADB WRONG!!! Sounds fantastic and holds 2,000 songs!!!

But what if you where able to get something that has a different name on it but it stood just as strong as something you would pay much more for. Wouldnt you get the one that cost less? Its not like you can show off the amp anyways, its behind the fairing.
I am always pleasantly surprised when "I get what I pay for" and many have overpaid thinking that when they pay more they get more.
As for "doing it right the first time," "right" varies from individual to individual.
ZD may find, or someone may have already found, a fine amp for fairing installation at far less than those previously mentioned that meets his requirements.
And some folks overspend on accessorizing their bike when they purchase an expensive item at a steep discount, that costs more than what they would have been satisfied with--getting the "deal" is their strong "buy" motivator.
I have no interest in an amplified system on my bike (currently), but if ZD can find something that suits him in price and sound, great--I'll be happy to read about it.

The Arc Audio setups are really not that expensive, Amp, Speakers and wiring for installation can be had for $440... It will take you about 1-2 hours to do this yourself... Not a bad deal.. If you can afford a bagger, you can save a few pennies to pull off the Arc setup...
One of these days we're gonna hear of some guy losing his bagger in a fire where the internal wiring ignites and starts a fire in the fairing. I don't think most people know how hot some of the class A/B car amps can get. Have you ever seen what happens to one when they get real hot? Seriously!
Save you money and get something that runs cool if you're gonna stick it in the fairing.
Well I was in the same boat. Didn't want to spent 3-400 on an amp. So i did a search on this forum and the other forum v somthing Any way I just bought two of these amps http://www.robotronics.com/products-...&category_id=2 Not the most expensive by any means but they are small enought to fit two side by side on top of the radio. If you find that other post it has a great install with tons of pics. Both these cost me $128 shipped to me at the military base in germany
