I found that you ride the bike take a few long trips and your bikes shortcoming will identify themselves...You see too many bikes with $10k in extras and less than 2,500 miles...a dollar per mile is a good rule...ride your scooter don't woory about the extras yet

+1 to Q Hog. This is your best bet. Draw up a plan...you already have a goal to ride to Sturgis...So, work on the creature comfort and safety items for a long trip!

1. cruise control
2. Rider and passenger backrest
3. Tour pack - full or chopped!
4. Foot boards extensions for you and boards for your passenger.
5. shocks are subjective at this moment in time. I do long trips and while I'm gonna replace them in the future...I do 2k trips without issues.
6. Power Commander 5 with auto-tune, intake and slip ons! this is also subjective, but you'll like a cooler running bike and new exhaust can sound real cool!
7. Highway pegs for stretching out!
8. New Windshield...so many to choose from!

Safety
1. LED turn signals
2. Bad *** Lights rear light - can't beat them for visiblity
3. Rear end stabilizer...we don't all experience the same wobbles. before investing in one...ride you bike hard but safe. Is there a wobble or rear end steer at high speed or on turns? If not...no worries...if yes...have the rear end looked at and adjusted...if that doesn't work...buy your stabilizer!
4. Rain gear for your and yours...Frogg Toggs are cheap and lightweight!

MOST IMPORTANTLY...And HarleyPingMan would shoot me if I didn't include this...GET THE SERVICE MANUAL! Everyone needs one...valuable info, and let's you do alot of your own work if you're so inclined!

I hope this helps!

Ride Safe and Choose Wisely! Mike
