I am new to baggers...in fact haven't even bought the bike yet. But, I will be purchasing an 08 StreetGlide with race tuner and exhaust already installed.
My question, what other add ons/mods should I be contemplating?
Was thinking a stabilizer/brace, sissy bar/back rest, rider backrest...
Whatelse to improve my ride-to-be?
I plan on riding it to Sturgis so the long-haul comfort is a goal.
Get your windshield right. fastaire.com
Hiway pegs, and riders backrest.
You're good to go.
A detachable King Tour Pack if you need
more storage or ride a lot of two up (keeps wife happy).
One of the first things I did to my '08 was slipons and a tuner along with some minor bling. This year, I plan on adding a "short" backrest with matching Street Glide pad. Not sure about a rack as most of my rides are one day trips.
Next big ticket purchase would probably be some nice wheels. Not sure that's gonna happen this year.
The Street Glide is a nice bike. Enjoy yours when the times comes.
Buy the HD Service Manual so you can install virtually anything you want to add without paying the dealer to do it, and avoid issues when doing it yourself without the manual.
For longhaul riding, cruise control is hard to beat for "comfort."
There is a ton of stuff you can do and you will get lots of ideas here, some of my favorites are the riders backrest and switching all might lights to LED with run, trun break as well as the HID head lamp.
I bought floorboard extensions. Also bought extended shift levers. This made the floorboards completely comfortable and usable.
I kept my heel shifter. THAT is how I've always ridden and am used to it.
I bought 'long arm' highway peg mounts from HD. These bolt up to engine guard. Set it up so heel of foot can rest on floorboard and ball of foot on the peg. THEN, you can use boards, a combo of boards and pegs, or just pegs.
Makes that ride more comfortable if you can move feet and legs around.
I cannot speak on an older SG. But an 09, with 6 gallon tank, can make legs uncomfortable because the boards are like 'under' the tank from the factory.
Highway pegs, floorboards for the boss on back, cruise and if you need the room for the long haul, a Tour Pak would be the first things to look at. After that, make it yours!!
