Default Motorcycle Camera - Proceed with Care

I am planning a tour on the continent and read about some really neat cameras you can get for recording the journey. Most seem to be based around the Sony ExView camera and I am sure this will be very good.

I bought mine off Ebay and it arrived today, excellent service but....

I accept I was naive when proceeding with this purchase, but equally so all the research I did on the companies web site certainly did not make it clear that to get this system to work you also need to be a recording device. I am not saying I was mislead, but equally so I do not believe key information like this was made abundantly clear. It now looks like I need to invest in a DVR which is going to cost me at least about Ł150.

I am a techno junky and like to keep up with these sorts of things and generally get this sort of thing right, so this is a lesson very well learnt. I wonder how many others have fallen for this?

If I can help others avoid this mistake then at least I have achieved something.

As I suspect many others are interested in using a camera set up as well, including myself, would you mind getting back with a review including equipment, final costs, and how you mounted the system? I am not a techno junky so any review would be helpful.

I would be afraid to mount a camera on my bike. Every video of a wreck I've seen, with a mounted camera, has been a bike with a camera mounted. Call me superstitious.

I was considering doing the same.
But, I was going to purchase one of Sony's HD videocameras with a 120gb HD.
These will record almost 8+ hrs on the highest setting.
They are palm sized and there are several ways to mount them.
You can mount to the handlebars, to the forks, or the crash bars.
If your planning a long trip you can bring along a laptop and download to it at days end.

Huh...

Of course all the wrecks you have seen had cameras....
How else could you have seen them unless you were involved?

In the March 2009 issue of Cycle World, I just read an evaluation of a compact, lightweight, and water resistant camcorder designed specifically for riders. It is called the "VholdR". A little pricey but does have some nice features if you're looking for this sort of item. Check out www.vholdr.com

I have to agree. Its kind of like a "hey ya'll watch this" type thing. I think I'll pass on putting a camera on my scoot.
