My 2008 Street Glide has decided to start idling at 2,000 RPM; this occurs about 80% of the time. Is there a way to reset the idle without taking it to the dealer?
I'm sure I have read the procedure on here, but don't recall what it was.
Have you tried doing a momentary disconnect of your battery, maybe that will set the idle back to the default mode.

My 08 Ultra did that when I took delivery last year... There is a flash to correct the problem where they did it on the spot and hasn't done it since.
Easy to do ...
Don't touch the throttle .. kill switch in the run position ...
Turn ignition switch on, wait for engine light to go off, turn ignition off.
Do this 4 times, then start the engine. This resets the computer.
Note: when shutting down the engine make sure it's at idle. Don't blip the throttle, and don't shut it down on cold idle. The computer remembers the last rpm at shutdown and sets the idle to that.
The best thing you can do is to always remember to shut the bike off by using your right hand to turn the key switch off, do not use the run switch next to the throttle. This makes sure you let go of the TGS (twist grip sensor) so it is in the right position. Each time the bike is shut off the TGS is learned so if your hand is resting on it, the new value will cause the idle to raise over time.
Turn the ignition on until the fuel pump shuts off, then turn it off. Repeat 3 time to reset to zero. Some where I read that the ECM keeps track of the last 4 cycles. I was told to use the kill switch on the handlebar to shut off engine vice ignition switch, just make sure you are not doing anything to the grip. Idle is idle, shouldn't matter if it is at cold idle or warm idle when you shutdown, the ECM is checking the TGS for idle. The ECM uses the various engine sensors to determine if it is at cold or warm idle.
Some good info on how the ETC works.

+1 frydaddy on being the correct shut down procedure.
