Default Safety Upgrades

After a real close call a few weeks ago when a pickup pulled out of a side street (thank god for ABS), I decided to make my Street Glide more visible.

1. Engine Guard-Mounted Fog Lamp Kit Pn. 68913-98b
(wired inside the crash bars)

2.Auxiliary Running Light/Brake Light/Turn Signal Conversion Kit Pn. 69462-06A
(re-wired to eliminate the running light feature)

3. Street Glide Tri-Bar Light Upgrade-Auxiliary Running Light/Brake Light
Pn. 68358-07

None of these IMO take away from the clean look of the SG.

Maybe now they can see me coming and stopping. Probably "NOT" but maybe it will help some!

Thank you... to all the forum members who helped me with good advise on these mods!

exactly those 3 headlights are 10x more visible than a single headlight.

every moron in the world seems to recognize those 3 lights as a bike.

and 3 lights are MUCH easier to judge the speed of approach.

good deal.

HJ, I could not agree with you more about the mods you've done and that they don't detract at all from the SG's look.

Sure, no safety device will save us from the completely distracted or drunk cager, or keep us safe in a chain reaction crash, but they do provide a significant additional margin of safety.

I've gotten into the habit of pulsing the front brake lever to alert cagers at my rear (don't want to add a load equalizer/aftermarket flashing device because of issues I've read about but haven't investigate), etc. to try to keep from being run over.

And thought about the headlight modulator, and will probably add one.

I also added Hyperlites. Very bright flashing brake lights, worth every penny.

I've had both a headlight modulator and brake modulator on a previous bike. Although many will disagree with me, I'm not convinced the headlight modulator adds that much - I still had my share of drivers who "didn't see me." I've opted for a 100 watt headlight bulb and will likely upgrade my driving lights (which are set up to stay on with high beam) to 55 watts.

The brake modulator worked pretty well and while it requires splicing into some wires, was trouble free. With my current bike, I'm thinking I may replace the brake light with one of those super-bright LED arrays.

The dangers we face are that so many drivers aren't paying attention and/or are just incompetant drivers that they won't notice any of our efforts to be more visable. The best tool we have to deal with these idiots is between our ears.

I did the same as you front & rear. I also added a BrightAss brake light to mine ( it was about 200 but worth it to me). It is brighter than the regular running light & you can change the amount it flashes the LEDs for the brake light. Helps a lot I have been told from fellow riders & some cagers say that is bright & gets their attention.

Ihave both brake and headlamp modulators. Even if the headlight modulator works only once to catch the eye of some cager about to pull out in front of me, it would seem to be worth it to me. Low cost and perhaps may save you sometime.
