Default 103" w/255 cams today

Ok then, just picked her up today from the dealer with a new stage II 103" w/255 cams installed and I got to tell you, I'm a little dissapointed with it.
I've only got about 25 miles on it but even just pulling out of the parking lot I could tell there wasn't an off-throttle bump like I had expected. I'd swear it still had the stock cams in it!

It seems like there's some pickup after 3200rpms and at 90mph there seemed to be a good bit more but like I said, seems like where I thought it would be it isn't.

I'm hoping that after break-in it will get better but I'm having some trouble convincing myself of that. More decel pop than before but it wasn't dyno'ed, I'll have that done after a 1000 miles or so to do it after breaking in the rings and what not.

I seem to remember my '95 RK with an Andrews EV46 cam just wanting to pull stumps out of the ground, seems it had more off the line than this bike.

We'll see how it goes, I'll try to put some more miles on tomorrow.

once you get a good tune you will feel the difference. I've got a 103/255 setup, with box stock exhaust. Pulls stumps from 2k rpm on.

But you got to get a good tune, look at my web site to see my dyno chart.

There are dyno tuners, then there are dyno tuners.

Congrats on your retirement, I retired Sept 97 after 126 years, Army 31Z5M

What are you using for the tune? I can say that going through the V-tune process with the TTS MasterTune made a big difference with my 103" and 204 cams.

That's not really the power band for 255's. All the power should be up to about 4500 rpms. Are you sure the cams said 255 on them? A tune will make a difference. But I was able to tell even before the dyno tune on mine. Maybe it was the wrong map they used.

Dude, you are probably running on a break in map. They don't do the dyno tune until you break it in. Change you oil at or before 500 miles and again at 1000. My bike had a break in map and it ran like crap with decel pops after my 103 build . After 1000 and a dyno tune it ran great.

+1

I did the cams only and I could tell a big difference but I did not have a break in map

Sure doesn't sound like mine at all. Mine builds torque immediately almost in a straight line up from 1k R's to 2k R's torque goes from 60 ft lbs to 78ft lbs, and from 2k to 3k from 78 to 98ft lbs. Between 3k and 4k it is fairly flat from 98 to 104ft lbs, then over 4k it really drops off fast. The HP peaks out around 4500 r's at 104 hp.

You should feel that motor's grunt the minute you let the clutch out from a stop sign, and every time you shift up. At least that is what mine does since day 1 after the build. He dynoed mine right out of the box and set the SERT up all with the new parts. The only complaint I have is hot starts, and I think I now have that resolved with the CR's. Fuel mileage is the same or maybe a bit better than before as long as you stay out of the throttle. Mine is a real puller now.

I have the same setup and mine will snap your head back before and after break in. I am on "little" bike though. Dyno Tune (someone that knows what they are doing) and it should be good to go. What hot start problems you having EG? Starter bang, kick back? If so you might want to look at changing out the stock Compensator its $rap.

Sueae Blue Man, I put a 103 w/255 cams in my 09 and downloaded the stage 2 map with the SEST and mine didn't run good at all. It had poor throttle response, alot of decel popping, and just didn't have any power. I played around with the maps and got it running pretty good then had a dyno tune done and it has been fine since. I don't know about yours, but on mine I downloaded the SE 110 w/255 cams map and my bike ran great with no decel popping and I ran that until I got it dyno'd. I asked on here about doing that and everyone said the 110 map was way to rich, well they were wrong. When I got my dyno tune done the 110 map was almost spot on on the VE tables, only had to change 3 cells on the front cyl and I think he changed 5 or 6 cells on the rear cyl.
