Default Chrome Hardware

Guys,, I am starting a complete (down to the engine-frame) teardown of a 03 FLH. I am sending some stuff to "Chromemasters" in Nashville,TN. Have you guys had any nuts/bolts/fasteners chrome plated and if so did you have any problems with the threads/nuts fitting after chroming. I don't want to have to use a tap-die on all of the stuff. A lot of the stuff I can by from the dealer but not all, besides it cost less to chrome my stuff. Thanks Gary

Make sure you use Harley Davidson certified chrome or it will void your warranty.

Somethines you have to go to different places to get exactly what you want:

http://www.gardner-westcott.com/

http://www.chromebolt.com/

I've bought the gardner-wescott sets off ebay for the engines, trans. They cost about the same as a hot toppers set but IMO look better than a cap.

I used Diamond Engineering 12 pt. polished stainless.
www.depss.com

I have my bro's bike in garage. Took his engine covers off his Standard and had chromed. Since they were off I sent all the bolts to chromer to be polished. Damn things look AWESOME! Cost about $40 to get ALL the engine/trans/primary bolts polished.

I think polished bolts are better. You don't have the problem of chrome cracking and getting those annoying rust pockets.

Also, you should run a tap through EVERY hole when you're chroming/powdercoating.

Plating companies use various methods to protect threaded parts; from slip-on silicone sleeves to electrician's tape. I have never used Chromemasters but would be willing to bet that they know what they are doing. Give them a call.

I always test-fit plated hardware with a nut or bolt before actual assembly; tap and die set close by if needed.

Another +1...I originally bought the HD chrome bolts, and wound up having to get the chrome allen caps to cover the rusty chrome bolts heads.
