Do any of you have a knocking noise when the engine is cold that goes away once warmed up? Bike seems to run great and not sure if its something out of the norm for these bikes. They are noisy by nature i know.

 

I've never heard any knocking whatsoever....even after a couple months of downtime. I'm sure others here will chime in with specifics on what to look for, but I'd be concerned at any type of knocking on a cold start. My bike has sit since December and I fired it up earlier today, no knocking at all (just a deep deep depression since it'll be sitting for a little while longer while the weather breaks).

Piston slap usually. As the piston heats up and expands it gets quieter. A loose comp will make the knocking sound hot or cold, so not likely your case here.

My 09 Ultra for the last 3000 miles has a rattle on start up after its restarted when warm that will last for 2-3 miles and then they get quite. Let my dealer listen to it and yep it the lifters. Bike has 8000 miles and will have to get them replaced under warranty. I have a good relationship with the dealer so hopefully will be ok. Not happy with having a new bike/engine taken apart.......

 

Sometimes for a couple of seconds on start up in cold morning, but goes away just as fast.

 

You are not mentioning what year of bike or mods done to it? As a guess I will shoot from the hip and say lifters. GM ones in newer SBC are notorius for this. Some of TC newer ones I have heard of this also. It might be a diffrent problem, though.
