I noticed today that my front brake reservoir is leaking at the seal. I called my dealer, they are ordering parts and it will be covered under warranty. The brake fluid caused some of the paint on the reservoir cap and the housing is bubbled up. Dealer said that he has heard of it before and they will take care of it including replacing the parts that have bubbled paint.
Anyone else heard of this?
It may not be a bad idea to check yours to make sure it is nice and dry. No clue what caused it to start leaking. I know it happened sometime over the winter. It would have been a bigger issue if the fluid would have made its way down to the tank and screwed up the paint there.
Not too bad for almost two years and 13000 miles.
BTW, my other minor issue I had was a key stuck in the gas door. It was also handled quickly by the dealer.
Had the same problem on my 2007 lowrider. Dealer said the poor seal design requires you to make sure cap's screws are snug but not overtight. Screw's loosen over time and seal starts to seep unless you keep it snug. Overtight and the seal distorts and leaks for sure.
I read about this before....I have an 06 and noticed it was oozing out around the rubber/gasket, I replaced the gasket before any damage was done.....My warranty had expired, I think it only cost a couple bucks for the new part.
I havent had the resivor cap off, and I know I haven't overtightened the screws cause I haven't messed with them, but it is bulging and looks like its overtightened. I am thinking that the seal was junk and swelled up causing the problems.

For the key problem, see if a Harley dealer in yer area carries Tri Flow Spray in aersol can and put it in the key hole with the plastic nossle about once every 3 months.
I would loosen the master cylinder cap every so often and check the rubber and ck the fluid and clean all the grit off everything and put it back. The enviorment you live in could affect what happens to the brake parts.
Brakes and mastercylinders leak . Never know when they will start. Brake fluid is tough on about everything it touch's as you know.
Glad it was covered under warranty.
I've seem mastercylinders paint gone because of matercylinder leak'n.
Did anyone change over to dot 5? Are all thsese problems happening with dot4? Just curious.
brake fluid is not like oil. you can't just change ***** nilly..... some brake fluids when mixed with others will congeal and you'll have no brakes. not a good thing. if you did want to change, you would have to completely disassemble your brake system, replace all the rubber seals and then run nothing else....
best to stick with what the manufacturer recommends.
