When i took my bars apart to swap them, and put on chrome housings, i dind't do the chrome switch caps. It was such a pain dealing with the tiny little screws that held the switches in place, that i will NEVER take them apart again unless i absolutely have to. I even have the chrome switch covers hanging in the garage, but i have a feeling they are just going to stay there!
Thanks alot guys, I just got a set of chrome controls for my apes and now this thread has got me a bit nervous. I thought it would be a piece of cake but with my sausage fingers you all got me thinking . But I refuse to take it to the stealer. Even if I cost me multiple sets of caps.
I should film it. I'm heard I'm really funny when I'm pissed off
Sausage fingers LMAO!!! I'm of victim of those finger as well. If I decide to go through with it and finish it, I will let you know how it went with the fingers.
A major.....and I mean MAJOR PAIN IN THE ****! Eventually I got the left side done and I was ready to install the Audio Controls (lower two switches) and they wouldn't mount on. Turns out that the die cast was crappy because it didn't match my switch poles. So I went to the dealer to get replacements. We went through several kits and they were all like that. After all the hassle, I decide to just return everything (broken caps by that point) and ask for a refund. My dealer was cool about it , refunded my money and they gave me new black caps to replace the ones I broke. By the way, did I mention what a MAJOR PAIN IN THE **** it is?
Never seen any dealer sell individual switch caps.........I even asked for the ones I needed when I first did mine, and they said they are only available as a complete kit.
installed them myself with a little help from the wife she has really small hands comes in
handy it was still a hand full kept the buttons black not crazy about the chrome buttons
-ride safe
Well shoot. I have the chrome switch housings installed already (not by me), still have the black switch caps on there. I want the chrome caps pretty bad, but I too have very little patience for this stuff. The last thing I want is the bike to sit in the garage unable to be ridden until I finish the job.
Ahhh, screw it! Glad I read this post first! ha ha... I think I'll just be happy with the black caps for now.
+1, be very, very patient. Do one side, take a break then do the other side. Buy two sets of caps, you will break one. Use a little lube when you slide the caps over the switches. Took me about half a day to do my Ultra by the time I had to run back to the Harley dealer to buy another set of caps.
