Hey all I'm looking for honest and level headed advice maybe you guys and gals can help....
OK here is the deal, I took my bike into my local dealer and told them the work I wanted done. This included Painted inner and painted Hogpods (Color matched) and other misc parts (that I gave them a list of the parts that I had with part #'s and want I wanted done). I was given a estimate print out from the dealer and that cost was roughly 600. On the estimate it lists the inner fairing remove and paint, and Hogpod paint and install, and install misc parts (See parts list). I have been checking in at the dealer and taking snap shots of the bike, and they were cool with all of that.. the service guy told me that he would install the parts for me for nothing since I was paying 600 for the fairing and pods along with a detach passenger backrest. I thought that was cool of them. Now comes the wierd news, I was in there today, and he tells me that bill is roughly 1000? I didn't know what to say, at first I was pissed, thinking to myself you told me 600, and now its 400 more? So I didnt say anything, I just pretended like I didnt hear him and the topic changed. But I guess my question is should I hold him to that quote? Or try to meet in the middle somewhere? What are the thoughts and concerns? I know that the work I had done was more labor intensive than the 600 that he originally quoted me, but that isnt my problem.... (below is a list of the parts that I had installed:
Color matched inner
Color matched Hodpods and install
install shift linkage
install ez shift levers
install ez brake levers
install HD garage door opener
install baby bullet lights to rear and remove grab bar
install Kuraykin mirror caps
install removable passenger back rest
I think that is it (sorry for the long post)
Opinions????

Reason: forget to add a part
If you've got the quote in hard copy, and you didn't add anything to the job, I'd say hold em to the deal. But I'm not a big fan of trying to screw anybody either. Sit down and talk to them, and find out what's cooking. Report back, and we'll all be glad to provide advise. The key is to be honest. Do the right thing.
Read the fine print on the quote; sometimes they have a clause spelling out that it is only an estimate. Regardless, you should ask why the actual cost is coming in so much higher (+67%) than the estimate. They can't charge you for something they can't identify or explain.
thanks for the info so far.. I will let you all know what happened. The problem I have is that in the quote it says install misc parts. These are (I would assume) are the paorts that I gave him with a list of the parts. He saw this list and took the time to add it to the estimate, and for the dollar amount for installing these misc parts it says 0.00.
Like I said I dont really want something for nothing, but dont blind side me either... if you knew or thought the quote was going to be different then just call me and inform me, then we could decide what we were going to do. Believe me I dont want to pay that much extra for intalling parts that he said he would dofor free, and if I have to, to get my bike back I will be looking for another dealer to work with and speak loudly about this one...
comaman2, I would love to, but I dont have the skills nor do I have the time, figured it was in there already might as well have this stuff done... plus I cannot paint with a brush much less a spray gun....
