Default Are all Touring Model Frames the same?

I want to change the look of my bike and am wondering if I can replace my Road King Classic tins with a set for a Street Glide (Fairing included)? Anyone have any idea?

Thanks

Yeah, you can do it. The frames were essentially the same from 1997 to 2008. The swingarm changed in 2002 (along with the axle size), and the front fork lowers changed in 2000 (along with the axle). I've already put a newer front end on my '97 Road King with '08 Brembo brakes and a Street Glide front fender, as well as a 2008 swingarm with Brembo brakes and soon to be a Street Glide rear fender/fascia. The fairings fit our front end, but there are alot of parts to buy if you go that route. Good luck.

That would be 97-07. They changed in 08 and then changed again in 09.

Enlighten me Dawg....

What changed other than the axles going from 1" in 2007 to 25mm in 2008? Unless you're including the IDS....which has nothing to do with the frame.

In 08 they came out with the 6 gallon tank and moved the top engine mount to the front. That is why you cannot put a 6 gallon tank from an 08 or 09 onto an older tourer. And in 09 of course they redesigned the whole shabang with the new rear end and all.

Ah....gotcha. I knew the tank size changed, but forgot about the upper motor mount. Are they a welded part or a bolt on?

It's a weldment. Kinda makes me a little nervous because the 08 is now a "one of a kind" so it could either be a good thing or a bad thing and be like the Duece where you can't find chit to fit it a few years in the future!

Hell....I own a Rocker....so I know exactly what you mean. I have to fab up parts for the bike because normal Softie parts rarely fit.

Probably more cost effective to sell the Road King and buy a Street Glide. Not to mention resale value.
