Well, after going over all the stuff I want to add to the 06 fatboy (Air Shocks, New Seat and cruise) along the air buffeting problem I have... I am seriously considering buying a 2009 Electra Glide Standard. The dealer has one with aluminum covers instead of chrome and is vivid black... bare bones model. I like the new features with the 09 models, back tire width and new frame.... but, for those who have them here are my questions...
1) Happy you have it?
2) Pro's/Con's (any)
2) Do you wish you would've bought a Electra Glide Classic or Ultra?
My 05 Standard has been a great bike. You can take the standard and make it your own.But it will cost you.Abought the only thing I didnt like about it was the brushed aluminum on the motor. You have to keep after it.Otherwise it will tarnish and pit up.Doable.But Id rather ride than clean and polish. The classic with it chromed motor is a better deal in my mind. That said I just bought a 09 road glide.

I bought my 07 Standard because I didnt like any colors available on the Classics and Ultras. I never liked the polished covers and silver motors, but I love this bike. I added the radio, tourpak and I am ordering lowers tonight. The 09s are so nice. So many upgrades and I really have not heard any complaints at all. If you like the looks of the Classics and Ultras, and can afford them out of the gate, then go for it. I traded my Dyna in, and buy as I go. I love the radio (HD) and cant say enough good things about the bike I have. Good Luck....
My shop is doing a "hidden" system on a FLHT for y local dealer that will be driven off the guys IPOD. This is an 09 in the denim black and is one of the nicest looking "out of the box" harleys Ive seen!
I had a 07 egs w/ 31,000 miles, I agree with the bad looking engine. I just traded it for the 09 rootbeer ultra. I was able to put most of the chrome from my 07 on the 09.
No regrets with my 08 FLHT. I would do it again. Classic has a little to much going on for me. I did get the HK radio and cruise options at a good price. Classic is a good deal if you want all the doo dads and tour pack. If I had went with the Classic I would have wanted to take all that stuff off, then I would have to try and sell it all or put it up in the garage to collect dust. Plus if you want take some of doo dads and stuff off you end up with holes to deal with. Removeable tour pack kit would have been another $4oo-$500 more and probably a pia to take on and off. I liked the looks of the FLHT and it didn't have anything on it I didn't want.
My brother just bought an 09 FLHT with the radio and cruise option, he loves it.
If you like the saddle bag rails, front fender rails, tour pack, chrome motor covers, Classic is the way to go.
Good luck, can't go wrong with any EG as far as I'm concerned.
