My radio had given me grief while my bike was under warranty. I would tell the dealer. Then the thing would be good for a couple months. Then it was a month then a week or two. Then it was out of warranty. Then it died last Fall. The dealer said they tried to get MOCO to get it covered as a pre existing problem but, MOCO said no. It sucks! When they know they had a ton of radio problems in 06. Kind of my fault. I should have said, it has a problem fixit! They would have said seems to be working fine. Live and learn I guess.
What is it actually doing? Completely inop, losing display, losing some functions? How long does it stay out? Did the HD dealer tell you what was wrong?
It started out just loosing sound. All speakers. Then, when I would rock the speaker toggle, they would come back. Sometimes for a couple of months. Then it dropped a rear speaker. Then it dropped a front. Then it dropped another front. I had them diagnose it last Fall and they said it was the radio. But the repair place will not send out a refurb till they get yours. Well I just didn't feel l;ike riding around with a hole in my dash. So I waited till the season was over. I had them fix it a couple of months ago.
You need to contact MOCO yourself and get with the regional warranty person. You'd be surprised on how quickly tunes change! Any and all corps like this place a hedged bet that you wont...it's called risk assessment...it's easier to tell you NO and hope you don't pursue! the calls are free and the worst they can say is "no" again! I do hate to say it...but alot of times it comes out that the dealer never did call MOCO about it!
Times are tough for MOCO with the prices of their stock and this economy. They (HD) aren't going to be approving anyone's warranty claims too easily. Where they may have let people (and claims) slide before are now being held to the iron. Consider yourself lucky it's just a radio and not a motor.
It sounds like a bad connection in your radio and I would definitely pursue it. I, like you, wouldn't like riding around without my radio. I don't trust dealers much and would go straight to the MOCO.
Geez, I hate hearing about problems like that. Get the HD Zone Rep # from your dealer, and see if they'll do anything for ya. They really helped me out on some problems I had with the Custom Paint Shop. Very accommodating. Takes a little effort to get the number, but give it a try. If you don't have any luck, PM me and I'll try and find the number. It might help. Good Luck.
