i have a service manual now and it does talk about a piece of cardboard. but again does this piece of cardboard act as a wedge that pushes up against the switch? this seems to be the case. i have it working for now with out anything but the lever up against the switch. thanks for those that are being helpfull...
No intent to "hi-jack" this thread, nor any intent to be sarcastic, but how does the brake switch break?
As pxs said, there is a switch "nub" that gets sheared off. Its actually a push button switch with a thick rubber boot over it. Squeeze the brake lever and you can hear it squeek- look in there with a flashlight where the brake lever disappears into the housing and you can barely see it when you squeeze the brake lever..

Not exactly. This doesn't go against the switch. Pull your brake level and look at the gap that's created (looking from the front of your bike). It goes there. It essentially holds your brake level on, thereby relieving the contact with the brake switch.
