Apparently you didn't read my entire post. Safety is important, but I do prefer a half helmet. I've riden bikes for years, and wore all types of helmets, but until I got my new ride, I had not tried half helmets.
No poser here bud! I really don't care what you or any other person thinks, as long as I'm comfortable with myself, and I like what I like. The post was about choices and what other riders like, prefer, and their opinions on them. Thank you for yours too!
PS>>> Here in NC, you have to have a helmet! Oh well..... there went that idea...
What ever question you ask on here some turd will respond by not really answering your question with the oh so funny
$10 head $10 helmet
$20+k bike so why the cheap part.
If you wear a half helmet my buddy says your gonna die.
These (add product here) are the absolute best you can buy.
Your gonna die, your gonna die.
Keep in mind that there are a bunch of people on here that have a bike so they can polish it in the front yard only to push it back in the garage later and even more that are scared to death to ride so to make themselves feel better they try to scare others. Sorry, i don't even give the scare tactics a second thought. I don't read or follow statistics. Doing so will make you one. I ride how i want when i want and where what i want and the real funny thing is i am still alive and no tickets from the fashion police.
Now for my answer, I am very happy with the performance of my ACC dot 1/2. It is extremely lite and comfortable. I must admit that i was unimpressed when i opened the box but after the first ride with it i was sold. I do own a full face but for extreme cold and bad weather only and prefer not to wear it. Take a peek at the Headtrip site for the ACC.
No matter what you buy, if it isn't a novelty helmet, then it's going to look like a mushroom. The carbon fiber helmets are expensive and you will lose 5 pounds of sweat off the top of your head every time it gets above 80 degrees. They have a plastic liner. I've only found one helmet that didn't have the mushroom head look. It's called a retro 50 or 55; and I think they just recalled those. Just pick a dot helmet that is light and not overly mushroom like. I think the new skid lids are just like vegas or daytonas, they pretty much all look the same and all claim to be the smallest helmet on the market. Kind of like buying a truck, they all claim to last the longest.
Just to add my .02 cents....I use HCI Half Helmets.....Ive always worn helmets and here in Illinois its Rider Choice (THANK GOD!!!!!). Anyway Im 51, most guys I Ride with, Age 45-65 DONT wear helmets..Their choice...Most are family men...With kids!!! I Have no problem with them ITS there choice!!! I would rather they wore one but then since in Illinois we have a choice ITS theirs to make!! I feel better with one on, and the heat doesn't both me!! I DO prefer 1/2 helmet over 3/4 or full...Just my choice!!! I DO think though that ANYONE with a NEW license (permit) should wear one!!!! Just to many factors in learning to ride!!! Its interesting to find after 4-6 months of not riding because of the bad weather in midwest, there is always a learning curve to getting back on our bikes!!!PLUS it also takes time for the cagers to get used to us being BACK on the roads!!!We may NOT want to admit it but it does take some time to get the cobwebs out of our system..especially the older we (I) GET!!!! Sorry to rant!!!!PLEASE Ride Safe, Happy Trails and COME ON SPRING!!!!!! R.W.

Well, it's nice that you have an opinion, but it's irrelevant. The purpose of a helmet is to protect your head. It's a piece of safety gear. The "mushroom" look is due to EPS foam that's designed to collapse on impact and protect your brain. You don't have to buy an expensive helmet to get better protection, but you do need that EPS foam to absorb the shock. If you don't have it in your helmet, then you really aren't getting much benefit from it.
So while my statement may have been blunt, it represented a bit of reality. You may think it's a scare tactic, but I guess you haven't been visited from the reality fairy yet.
Thanks for calling me out as a turd. I appreciate your sense of class.
The impact test done on both carbon fiber DOT and non DOT were not much different , the so called DOT helmet took the impact better but not by much..............
I only wear one when I have to and its a Frenchy Ive had for many years. I have personally never seen a HD rider wearing a full face but if thats your choice I respect it, just remember ............Let those who ride.............DECIDE.
All DOT helmets are Mushroom Lids...............just paste it with stickers and put a Mohawk Hair Peice on it......
I bought a full face for the winter months and a half for warmer weather. I bought the carbon kevlar helmets from the Harley shop . They are light weight and I had the misfortune of trying out the full face Feb 6. It handled the asphalt rash very well and I am proud of all that padding. They say I will heal in a few months but can you imagine what my tombstone would have read if I wasn't wearing it or if I had went with a cheap skid lid. Everyone has an opinion. I am proud of my carbon kevlar full face, it is scratched front, back, sides, face shield is scratched pretty bad to. I don't like wearing a helmet but I doubt I would have like facial reconstruction...
To answer the original question after all my babbling ( they gave me good pills)
I really like the half shel I bought , other than looking like a cross between a bobble head and a mushroom. It weighs about 3 lbs and is really comfortable and the carbon kevlar has proved itsself to me.
I have to give cudos to the FXRG suits too. I am broke all to pieces but I didn't get a scratch.
Look around for the Scorpion EXO 100... Great (removable) ear curtain, half-shield flips down directly from the shell for rain, fairly light, removable top visor... Can't say enough about it.
I've got a harley half helmet and I like it but at my dealer recently I saw this Scorpion EXO-100 and I plan to buy one. Here is a video of it's features...very nice! http://www.youtube.com:80/watch?v=lPZRRDK7TRM
