I installed these on my '96 RK and the improvement was major. They prevent a majority of the turbulence from swirling up from the tank. They did not hamper engine cooling on that bike, and once installed in 1998 I didn't remove them except for replacement once or twice for cosmetic reasons. Unfortunately they won't fit my '07 SG.

The deflectors don't affect air flow to the motor at all so they can be left on. Once it gets hot I'll take mine off to keep me cooler though. It's just four bolts.
